“If your brother becomes poor”, the scripture says, “and cannot maintain himself, you shall maintain him. You shall not lend him your money at interest, nor give him your food for profit”. This is such an important idea, do you believe that? This is how Jesus begins his ministry. These first words are from Isaiah: “The Spirit of the Lord is upon me”, he says, “because He has annointed me to preach the Good News to the poor”. And Jesus proclaims the Year of the Lord’s Favor, the year of Jubilee, and that’s on Luke 4. What He was really talking about was an year of Grace, and we’re still in it.


I mean, God may well be with us in our mansions on the hill, I hope so, He may well be with us in all manners of controversial stuff, may be, may be not. But the one thing we can all agre, all faiths, all ideologys, is that God is with the vunerable and the poor. God is in the slums, in the cardboard boxes, where the poor play house. God is in the silence of a mother who has infected her child with the virus that will end both their lives. God is in the cries heard under the rebel of war. God is in the debris of wasted opportunities and lives, and God is with us if we are with them!"

“Se seu irmão se tornar pobre”, a bíblia diz, “e não puder se manter a si mesmo, você deve mantê-lo. Você não deve emprestá-lo teu dinheiro por interesse, nem dá-lo tua comida por lucro”. Esta é uma idéia muito importante, você acredita nisso? É desta forma que Jesus inicia seu ministério. Estas primeiras palavras são de Isaías: “ O Espírito do Senhor está sobre mim”, ele diz, “porque Ele me ungiu para anunciar as Boas Novas aos pobres”. E Jesus proclama o Ano do Favor do Senhor, o ano do Jubileu, que está em Lucas 4. O que Ele está realmente falando, é sobre o ano da Graça, e nós ainda estamos nele.

Eu quero dizer, Deus pode muito bem estar conosco em nossas mansões nas montanhas, espero que esteja, Ele pode muito bem estar em toda sorte de coisas controversas, pode estar, pode não estar. Mas sobre uma coisa todos podemos concordar, todas as crenças, todas as ideologias, é que Deus está com os vulneráveis e com os pobres. Deus está nas favelas, nas caixas de papelão, que os pobres fazem de casa. Deus está no silêncio de uma mãe que infectou seu filho com o vírus que porá fim a ambas as vidas. Deus está nos prantos ouvidos sob o fardo da guerra. Deus está nos escombros de oportunidades e vidas perdidas, e Deus está conosco se estivermos com eles!
